The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has begun construction on the Advanced Wrong-Way Driving Safety Improvements Project at 23 exit ramps along SR 9/I-95, SR 93/I-75, and SR 862/I-595 within Broward and Palm Beach counties. These improvements will enhance communication with our Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) to alert drivers of an approaching wrong-way driver and immediately notify law enforcement, improving safety for all.

Project Improvements Include…

  • Installing flashing beacons, wrong‐way signage, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) devices at 23 exit ramps to enhance safety by detecting wrong‐way drivers and preventing serious injury crashes on the State Highway System.
  • Integrating the wrong‐way driving detecting system/ITS with the Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) to aid in alerting motorists and notifying law enforcement.
  • Upgrading wrong‐way signage and pavement markings to preserve the service life of the road and enhance visibility.

Traffic Impacts Include…

  • Full ramp closures are permitted, as needed, 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday nights.
  • Shoulder closures are permitted as needed.
  • Additional information about lane closures and detour information will be provided in the weekly traffic report distributed by FDOT.
