The Tennessee Department of Transportation has begun emergency repairs on the bridge on I-75 South over I‑24 West in Chattanooga. The I-75 South bridge is currently reduced to one lane because of the failure and collapse of the outer bridge beam. The emergency repairs will restore the bridge to two lanes.

Work to restore the I-75 South bridge to two lanes began Tuesday. The contractor will cease work daily during morning rush hours (6:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.), but after that will continue to work seven days a week until the work is completed. Until the repairs are completed, the contractor will work daily between the hours of 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. for a total of 20 hours per day.

During work on the I-75 South bridge, the ramp to I‑24 West beneath the bridge will be reduced to one lane for the safety of the traveling public.

This work is expected to take approximately two weeks to complete and is weather dependent. Drivers who must travel through this area are urged to be patient and to watch for workers and equipment.
