The Georgia Department of Transportation reports that the following previously announced lane closures continue next week for Interstate 16/Interstate 75 Interchange Improvement Project construction activities in Bibb County.
- Left lane closed overnight on I-75 southbound from the I-16 interchange to Exit 163/State Route (SR) 74/Mercer University Drive for overhead sign installation.
- One right lane closed on the I-75 entrance ramp at Hardeman Avenue from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day for overhead sign installation.
- One lane closed on Riverside Drive near the Second Street bridge from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following day for bridge demolition.
Ongoing, long-term closures:
- I-75 southbound to I-16 eastbound will not have access to the Spring Street/Exit 1A exit ramp through spring /summer 2022.
- Dedicated right turn lane on the I-16 eastbound off-ramp to Spring Street closed through the spring of 2022.
- Permanent lane closure on Coliseum Drive/Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard southbound between Clinton Street to Riverside Drive; southbound traffic reduced to one lane.
- The far-right lane of I-75 northbound at the SR 19/Georgia Avenue exit (exit 164) closed for several months.
- Spring Street’s far right lane at the I-16 westbound on-ramp as well as the right-hand on-ramp to I-16 westbound closed for several months; the Spring Street on-ramp to I-16 westbound has relocated to the far-left lane.
The $500 million I-16/I-75 Interchange Improvement Project is being delivered in seven design and construction phases that will continue through 2030. It will deliver safer and improved mobility for local commuters and businesses, regional travelers and commercial freight from the Georgia southern coast to destinations within Georgia and throughout the nation.
