An I-75 welcome center in Kentucky welcome center has closed this week for demolition, and a new facility is expected to be completed next fall.

The Whitley County Welcome Center closed Friday, October 4. Located at the 1.5 mile marker on I-75 in southern Kentucky, the aging center will be demolished this month and a modern, new facility will be built by fall 2020.

The welcome center was built in 1971, and some 30,000 vehicles pass it daily. The cabinet said in a news release the center is considered to be the most deteriorated of all Kentucky’s welcome centers.
