With the Interstate 74/75 Mill Creek Expressway – Phase 5B project now in its final configuration, restrictions have been lifted at the Montana Avenue interchange.
The ramp from southbound Montana Avenue to I-74 East has been reopened to traffic, and the Texas Turnaround at the interchange has been removed.
During the 2024 construction season, the Mill Creek Expressway – Phase 5B project has seen the reconstruction of the I-74 bridges over Spring Grove Avenue and Elmore Street, as well as the replacement of median barrier, pavement, bridge painting, drainage, and other work.
The Texas Turnaround was established at Montana Avenue to re-route motorists wanting to exit at Beekman Street/Colerain Avenue after entering I-74 West at I-75, as there was no direct access to the exit from westbound I-74 West the most recent phase of construction.
Last week, the exit to Beekman and Colerain from I-74 West via I-75 reopened to traffic as well, allowing for the Texas Turnaround at Montana to be eliminated.
As crews work to wrap up major construction for the year, they will be cleaning up work sites along I-74, at the interchanges and under the overpasses. Although traffic impacts should be minimal, crews will be working as weather permits during the winter months and prior to final paving operations next spring.
This $84.9 million project began in the spring of 2022, and it is on schedule to be completed in the summer of 2025.
