The Florida Department of Transportation reports the following traffic impacts associated with I-75 construction in the Tampa area this week:

  • I-75 from the Tampa Bypass Canal (south of Fowler Avenue / Exit 265) to I-4 (Exit 261)
    • Southbound lane closures: Sunday, March 3 through Thursday, March 7 from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
  • Sligh Avenue under Interstate 75
    • Lane closures with flagging operations: Saturday, March 2 and Monday, March 4 through Saturday, March 9 from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This project will relocate the exit point to I-4 (Exit 261) almost one mile to the north and create a 1.25 mile two-lane ramp that is separated from the mainline travel lanes by guardrail.

The two-lane ramp will extend to the current area when the ramps split to go east or west on I-4. Each ramp lane will feed directly into the existing ramps onto eastbound and westbound I-4, allowing for traffic to get into the correct ramp lane well before the current decision point where the ramp splits to the two directions of I-4.

These improvements will increase safety and traffic flow for southbound I-75 approaching interstate 4.
