The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) reports that, as part of their statewide rest area upgrade project, the Miami County north and southbound I-75 rest areas will close Friday, October 11, for demolition and replacement.

The work is expected to take approximately one year to complete. The rest areas will be completely closed with barricades and not accessible by the traveling public. The new facilities are expected to open in fall of 2025.

The rest areas are located just south of the city of Piqua. The northbound rest area is located at Mile Marker 80.16, and the southbound is located Mile Marker 80.1.

The new lodge-style building will have everything under one roof, including larger rest rooms with adult changing tables, a lobby area with vending and regional tourism information, and attached and covered outdoor picnic area. Included in the new design are landscape upgrades that include Ohio native plants.

Demolition of the buildings is expected to take place over the winter months, followed by construction of new facilities.

The nearest rest areas on I-75 will be those located just north of the city of Wapakoneta.

Commercial drivers often park for extended periods with the rest area closures drivers should be careful of trucks parked alongside on-ramps and exit ramps.

In spring of 2023, Gov. DeWine announced a plan to update 33 rest areas across 17 locations with all new buildings. Additional parking is also being added where possible. Ohio has 85 rest areas located along major highways, not including those maintained by the Ohio Turnpike Commission.
