The Florida Department of Transportation reports that multiple traffic pacing operations are planned for the week of Monday, August 26 along northbound and southbound I-75 between Moccasin Wallow Road and US 301. During each pacing operation, law enforcement vehicles will slow traffic to15 mph to create a 30-minute window for crews to install overhead sign structures over I-75 travel lanes.

Locations dates/times include:

  • Pacing Operation #1: Northbound I-75 from Moccasin Wallow Road to just south of College Avenue between 9:00 p.m. Monday, August 26 and 5:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 27.
  • Pacing Operation #2: Northbound I-75 from Moccasin Wallow Road to just south of Big Bend Road between 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 27 and 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 28.
  • Pacing Operation #3: Southbound I-75 from US 301 to just south of Big Ben Road between 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 28 and 5:00 a.m. Thursday, August 29.

Depending on the operation, traffic entering I-75 from on-ramps (between Moccasin Wallow Road and US 301) will not be able to enter until the front of the pacing operation has passed.

The Florida Department of Transportation is adding Intelligent Transportation System, or ITS, components along I-75 from the Manatee County Line to Big Bend Road including fiber optic cable, closed-circuit television cameras, and Microwave Vehicle Detection units.

This ITS project uses a variety of devices including electronic roadway signs, (called dynamic message signs) and closed-circuit television cameras to monitor roadway congestion, lane closures, current weather or emergency conditions and advises motorists of travel times.

The $5.8 million project is expected to finish in early 2020.
